The Geoscience Center—new name, new employee in a new position (I am the first paid curator/director), new directions to go flying into. A new aspect has been added to the “museum's” original purpose of preserving the heritage and the profession of geophysics and ensuring its healthy future. Now the thrust is on education—to use the Center as a resource for future geoscientists. The goal is to make the pursuit of earth science studies more accessible to students, especially in the 5–16 age group.
One of the avenues the Geoscience Center is exploring is to provide vocational information in an ongoing, continuously updated format, via a Web site. This could be accomplished simply by having a dedicated computer in the Center ready to transport the inquirer to the best Web sites about career choices in the geosciences, opportunities available now and those projected for the future.
