At the recent TLE Forum V, held last October at SEG's Annual Meeting in Denver, the talks reminded us that global energy demand continues to grow despite every effort to conserve and improve efficiency. Several speakers shared their thoughts and opinions about future challenges facing the global energy industry and one, in particular, outlined his company's strategy to explore for more oil and natural gas in adverse and more difficult environments.

That speaker was Bob Gistri of ExxonMobil, whose talk also summarized some key developments and practical applications of geophysical technologies since their inception. More to the point, recent significant upstream and downstream technology achievements have led to paradigm changes that extend our capabilities to explore and produce hydrocarbons in very deepwater and from subsalt plays.
