Petroacoustics of carbonate reservoir rocks

Although more than half of hydrocarbon reserves are in carbonate reservoir rocks, little has been published concerning their petroacoustics (acoustics of rocks). One reason is that conventional measurement techniques (ultrasonic propagating waves, first-break picking for velocity, spectral ratio for attenuation) do not always perform adequately in carbonate rocks because of their heterogeneity.
