It will probably surprise some to see the name of Michael Faraday (17911867) in this series because he is rarely, if ever, associated with seismology or mathematics. However, some of Faraday's concepts provide an effective analog for some fundamentals of exploration seismology. It is also pleasant to revisit Faraday's life which is one of the most inspiring stories in the history of science and which itself has some lessons that bear re-examination.
