Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa and the 11th largest in the world. The majority of reserves are found along the country's coastal Niger River Delta. Nembe Creek Field, southwest of Port Harcourt (Figure 1), was discovered in 1973 and started production in 1977. This land/swamp field has a large STOIIP with an ultimate recovery of about 50%. Cumulative production as of January 2006 is about 643 million stock tank barrels (stb), thus leaving a huge opportunity that technologies such as time-lapse seismic and smart wells can impact, in addition to unlocking bypassed reserves.
