SEG 75th ANNIVERSARY

The 1970s—a boom begins

Abstract

After four decades of existence (with membership increasing each year), SEG had, at the end of 1969, 7110 members. After five decades (and one year), that figure had doubled. The reason, of course, was not due to significant advances in geophysical technology, although there were some, but to the twin "oil price shocks" of the early and late 1970s.
